Singh looking forward to batting alongside ‘fearless’ Dhoni
The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) has rubbished reports that MS Dhoni was asked to leave the captaincy. “We’ve won World Cup and the Champions Trophy under him”, Singh told bcci.tv.
“There was no pressure on Dhoni to resign from captaincy”.
In due course, Dhoni become the most successful captain in the history of Indian cricket. “Added responsibility has always worked for me in the sense that you have no room to be complacent or relax at any stage”.
“I salute him for his sense of ideal timing”.
Kohli also expressed gratitude to Dhoni for giving him the opportunity for thinking that he is worthy of taking India’s leadership forward in the shorter formats as well.
Always my captain The admiration Kohli has for Dhoni goes beyond words, the connect is something deep.
Dhoni’s camp argued the ODI team wasn’t as dominating as the Test side because the selectors were focused entirely on the longer format.
In case you didn’t know.. That is one of the things that we have been able to do in Test matches. “We share a wonderful friendship”. He has also been assigned the role of backup wicketkeeper to MS Dhoni. Personally, too, his batting had taken some beating. I know he is like that but I would love to see him bat higher up usually than what he’s been playing for the last few years.
Kohli remembered his initial days as a cricketer in the worldwide arena and the massive support given by the wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni.
Dhoni will now play under the captaincy of Virat Kohli in the limited-overs team, beginning with the series against England, which starts from January 15. “It is a win-win situation for the new captain coming in”. Now, he has 176 ODIs and 45 T20Is behind him. “I think you’ve just got to keep working hard and believe that one day you will come back to the place you belong”, Yuvraj said.
“Congratulations to MSD on a wonderful career as a captain leading India to success in both T20 and ODI World Cups”. Winning, he said, would be the best preparation. There are numerous matches, series and tournaments to be played between now and the 2019 World Cup before identifying either a captain or his squad for the event. He said, “I think he will be fine”.
