Sir Alex Ferguson backs Mourinho to turn it around
Chelsea lost 1-0 to AFC Bournemouth at home in the weekend and they now sit at 14th in the Premier League table.
However, Daily telegraph correspondent is confident that Mourinho will be axed before or after their Wednesday match against Porto FC in their Champions League encounter if he loses, especially with the shocking defeat he suffered from the hands of Bournemouth in their last English Premier League encounter.
Mourinho signed a four-year deal until June 2019 in August and received a vote of confidence from Abramovich on October 5, but the team have so far failed to deliver on a couple of promising performances with four wins and five losses in 11 games since.
Former Manchester United great Ferguson said Russian owner Roman Abramovich must ignore the criticism the club are receiving and keep faith in Mourinho.
“It would be foolish for him to take that step to sacking him”. That would be bad management. “It’s not leadership, that”.
“There are not many teams who can continue that, for instance Manchester City won the League and then lost it the next year, Chelsea won the league and are now having a bad spell”.
Forget Champions League football next season: right now Chelsea will be lucky to make the Europa League.
“Our objective is not to fight for (avoiding) relegation, so if our objective is to fight for top four then (after this) you have to think about finishing top six”.
There have been some media reports that the larger-than-life Mourinho could be moved on from Stamford Bridge if Chelsea cannot win their next two games.
Wilkins also believes the dressing room dynamic has changed from last season, the spirit has ebbed away and doubts whether Mourinho will be backed in the transfer market.
“I think he already proved past year that [Mourinho] worked really well with Eden and Eden worked really well with Mourinho”.
Although the Blues may seem in the driving of their group, a heavy defeat at home to Porto, and Dynamo Kiev beating Maccabi Tel Aviv, would mean that they would fail to qualify from the group.
“We’ve never been in the Premier League before so when you come to the champions and beat them, I think it must rank the best individual result in club history”. Of course not scoring enough goals.
“I just try to play my game, help the team like every player wants to do”, Courtois said.
