Sirsi: Modi practicing politics of vendetta against Gandhis
The Gandhis, along with others, accused in the National Herald case, appeared before Metropolitan Magistrate Lovleen in response to a summons issued against them.
Partymen claim that the Congress wants it to be a low key affair.
In 2012, Swamy had filed the case accusing Sonia, Rahul and the others – Motilal Vora, Oscar Fernandes, Suman Dubey and Sam Pitroda – of cheating and misappropriation of funds in acquiring the ownership of now-defunct daily, National Herald. In the District Congress office here, Sports Minister Ajit Singh, DCC president and former MP Karnendu Bhattacharjee, former Minister Misbahul Islam Laskar, general secretaries Partha Ranjan Chakraborty, Rajesh Deb and members of the Seva Dal and Mahila Congress shouted slogans condemning the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government for levelling allegations against the Gandhis which lacked substance. That’s the reason as to why ultimately both of them had to appear in front of the court.
Minutes after the court formalities, the Congress yesterday turned the bail for Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and also for other leaders into a celebration. Our fight will continue.
With Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi granted bail in the National Herald case on Saturday, the opposition party is likely to be less confrontational in the remainder of the winter session of Parliament, raising hopes that the remaining three days will be put to productive use-though not for the passage of the pending goods and services tax bill. The present government was purposefully misusing government agencies to target us. As Swamy pointed out, the Congress Party received tax-free donations which were illegally funneled into the AJL which was now sought to be grabbed surreptitiously by the Gandhis under the guise of a new company, Young India Ltd. Also, the fact that highly subsidized lands all across the country was given to AJL for publishing a newspaper established his bona fides as a citizen concerned about safeguarding public interest. “It was established now the way he was given the Z category security and a government bungalow as perks”, Rajya Sabha Opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters.
Soon after out of court, fourth generation of Nehru-Gandhi family who faced law, a beaming Rahul told media that neither he, nor his party will bend. Pointing to the “spontaneous” show of strength by Congress cadres, a senior party leader maintained this was only the beginning. “When we say Congress-mukt bharat, we mean corruption-mukt bharat”.
In 2014, the trial court asked Sonia and Rahul to appear in the case. The party also resorted to vindictive action by foisting false cases against the national Congress leaders, he said.
