Six bodies found in a Chicago house; police investigate homicide
Five adults and a child were found dead Thursday afternoon in a home in the Gage Park neighborhood on Chicago’s Southwest Side.
Interim police Superintendent John Escalante told reporters Thursday there is “no known threat” to the neighborhood.
Authorities haven’t confirmed the victims’ identities, but “this is a single-family residence and several family members resided in this one residence”, he said.
Escalante declined to say how the people died, what weapons, if any, were found in the house or how long ago they may have been killed.
Officers performed a well-being check at a Gage Park house about 1:05 p.m.in the 5700 block of South California after a co-worker of a man who lives in the house said he had not shown up for two days.
They have not determined the cause of death.
Markita Williams, a neighbor, told the Chicago Sun-Times a family had lived in the home for at least the last three years.
Martinez said the father worked at a factory in Chicago and the mother was a housewife.
Despite the macabre discover, Escalante says police don’t believe neighbors should be anxious. “We don’t understand what happened”, she said.
“They keep their curtains open all the time”, she said.
“It’s just one of those things I can’t explain”.
‘We are in shock, ‘ the relative, who has not been identified, said.
“His favorite sport was soccer”, Aaron Villazana said of his friend, and Emmanuel Hernandez chimed in: “He’d get out of school and play soccer….”
Moreno reported from Springfield, Illinois.
