Six dam workers wounded in explosion in Grant County
Several employees of the Priest Rapids Dam in Washington state were injured Thursday in an explosion, NBC News reported.
Thomas Stredwick, a spokesman for the Grant County Public Utility District, said the explosion was suspected have been electric-related.
At least six people have been injured.
Officials said all the injured were transported to hospitals via an ambulance or an aircraft.
Officials say the structure of the dam is stable and no one down the river is at risk. There was no public safety threat. The cause of the explosion is unknown but may have been due to an electrical malfunction. Foreman said a 911 outage may be connected to the incident and there may be a few power outages in the area.
The Priest Rapids Dam is a hydroelectric, concrete gravity dam, located between the Yakima Firing Range and the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.
