Six game ban for Ciftci after Dundee derby bite
Celtic striker Nadir Ciftci has been banned for six games with a further two suspended after being found guilty of excessive misconduct.
The 23-year-old was subsequently found in breach and was slapped with a ban.
Ciftci received 11 bookings and one red card last season, but he twice escaped punishment after being cited by SFA compliance officer Tony McGlennan on charges of violent conduct against both Inverness defender Gary Warren and Celtic skipper Scott Brown, who accused the striker of kicking him in the head.
Disciplinary Rule 202: In that the above match you committed an act of Excessive Misconduct by biting Jim McAlister of Dundee FC upon his leg to his injury.
The SPFL video – entitled “Tempers flare in tetchy Dundee derby” – shows McAlister pointing to his leg and shouting to referee Bobby Madden that he had been bitten.
McAlister, 29, is now training with Blackpool having been released by Dundee.
The player attended a hearing to find out his fate at Hampden this afternoon.
Ciftci, who began his career with Portsmouth before a spell with Kayserispor, moved to Tannadice from Dutch club Breda in 2013 and went on to score 33 goals in two seasons.
The ban only applies to domestic matches meaning Ciftci would be available for Celtic’s Champions League qualifier on Wednesday night.
