Six injured in West Bank vehicle, knife attacks
A 48-year-old Israeli man was seriously injured in a stabbing attack near the West Bank settlement of Alfei Menashe on Sunday afternoon, the Israeli police said.
She then lunged at the guard and quickly tried to stab him before being shot in the street.
Another checkpoint was set up at the entrance to al-Fawwar refugee camp south of Hebron, and another on al-Haraeq junction near the illegal settlement of Beit Haggai. I asked her, ‘Why are you doing that, what do you have there?’ As I was asking these questions she took out a knife and stabbed me, a bit, it was more like a scratch.
Israeli public radio described two of the injured as in a serious condition.
Media reports said a 16-year-old was seriously wounded and an 18-year-old was lightly hurt. Israel alleges that 44 of the Palestinians they killed were planning on conducting attacks on Israeli’s. But following stepped-up security measures in the capital, the majority are now taking place in the West Bank (Judea and Samaria), with occasional attacks in other cities, such as Rishon LeZion and Netanya.
Violent protests have also erupted in annexed east Jerusalem, the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
The poll examined the attitudes of Israeli citizens – both Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel – as tensions and unrest soar amid growing violence.
In another incident near a different Israeli settlement a Palestinian man hurt four people in a car-ramming attack.
A day earlier, an Israeli man arrived at the same crossing after having been stabbed in the abdomen by two terrorists in the nearby Palestinian village of Nabi Ilyas.
Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported on Sunday that Netanyahu planned to unveil measures to calm tensions in the West Bank during his meeting with Obama, and that these may include removing a few checkpoints and easing certain restrictions on movement.
In addition to stabbings, Palestinians have also carried out shooting attacks and used vehicles to attack Israelis.
In October, Yair Lapid, an Israeli legislator from the centre-right Yesh Atid party, said Palestinians suspected of attacking Israeli soldiers or civilians “should be shot to be killed”.
