Six killed and 11 injured in Thailand’s violence-hit south
A total of six people were killed and 11 others injured in explosions and an arson attack from Friday night to Saturday morning in three provinces of southern Thailand, local media reported.
The bombings targeted a bank and restaurants in Thailand’s southern provinces of Songkhla and Narathiwat on Saturday, police spokesman General Prawut Thavornsiri told reporters.
Meanwhile, a bomb planted on a motorbike exploded in front of the Top Asia hotel, injuring eight people and causing heavy damage to surrounding vehicles.
Shortly after midnight, fires broke out in three places – near the Somchai auto-parts shop on Pracha Vivat Road, the Thai construction material shop on Pracha Vivat Soi 1 and the Saeng Charoen wholesale store on a road behind Genting Market.
More than 6,300 people have been killed in near-daily conflict pitting troops and police against rebels seeking greater autonomy for the 3 Muslim-majority provinces bordering Malaysia since 2004.
Three people were killed, the “Bangkok Post” said. The attack happened at the Krok Thong Karaoke in the heart of Padang Bezar border town of Songkhla’s Sadao district.
In Yala province, improvised bombs toppled eight electricity transmission towers overnight, police said.
