Six killed in another surge of violence in Chicago
The “innocent” group had been returning from a family outing on Monday night when the shooting occurred on the city’s southwest side, Chicago police said. “Somebody opens fire on two women, a child, and two adults, killing the mother of the 11-month-old and the grandmother of the 11-month-old”, said Chicago Police Dep. Chief Eugene Roy. Two Chicago police officers who responded to the scene made the split-second decision not to wait for paramedics. The young man was shot several times and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital.
The baby was shot in the side and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. One of the men was in critical condition, while the other man had non-life-threatening injuries, Roy said.
“We’re looking at all possible motives for this attack”, police said.
The relationship between the two male victims and the dead women and baby was not immediately clear.
In a separate incident incident in the Washington Park neighborhood, a 23-year-old man was shot in the left shoulder as he stood outside in a drive-by shooting, according to police.
The 1-year-old suffered a gunshot wound in the shooting in the 5300 block of South Aberdeen just after 7 p.m, police said.
Additionally, a 2-year-old boy was grazed by a bullet in an accidental shooting inside a South Shore neighborhood home early Tuesday. He was taken to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. Relatives said Chew was 25 and Wells was 48.
