Sixers snap losing streak, defeat Lakers in Kobe Bryant’s Philadelphia finale
It was the 76ers first win of the year and it was also Kobe Bryant’s final National Basketball Association game in his hometown Philly.
The Sixers had lost their first 18 games, and 28 overall dating to last season – the longest skid in the history of major professional sports in the United States.
“I’m pleased for the city”, Sixers coach Brett Brown said.
Now on seven-game losing streak, the Lakers will continue a long eight-game road trip facing the Washington Wizards, Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons in their next three games.
Bryant thumped his chest, waved to the fans, blew a kiss and was serenaded with “Kobe!” chants as he walked off Philadelphia’s court for the final time. But since there is somebody out there that probably hasn’t done anything significant with their life until the 76ers win a game, this post is especially for you.
Maybe the Lakers should take advice from Bryant’s former teammate Rick Fox who suggested that the Lakers should just retire both numbers. It was emotional. You can’t script that stuff.
“He’ll tell me, ‘I just don’t have legs, ‘” Scott said. Kobe Bryant scored 20 points, he started off hitting three of his first four shots; all from three point land. “We moved the ball, got it to him, but there were some that weren’t good shots, and I think he would agree with that”. “The one that comes to mind was AI (Allen Iverson) cooking my face off for 45 (points)”.
The Sixers also gave him a video tribute.
With 1:09 to play, Bryant jumped with T.J. McConnell, the Sixers’ rookie backup point guard.
Malone, whose son Moses Malone Jr. announced his dad will finally have his jersey retired by the Sixers next year, died September 13 at the age of 60. Robert Covington lead the Sixers with 23 points. “We were fortunate to come out with a victory”.
The Lakers clawed back in front behind Clarkson, who had 12 points in the third period, but the Sixers notched the last six points of the quarter on two free throws by two free throws and a dunk by Noel, as well as a jam by Grant. The way they played in those ones, it became apparent that they were capable of winning, and that they can compete for four quarters. “We haven’t blinked and reacted to the obvious”.
‘I know the world wanted to see it. I wanted it, we wanted it. He held up his end and I didn’t hold up my end, and I hate that.
