Ski champ almost hit by falling drone
A drone came crashing down during a World Cup race, and narrowly missed one of the best skiers in the world.
The drone had a television camera on it and crashed on the ski slope seconds behind Hirscher, 26, who didn’t know what had happened.
“This can never happen again”, he said. This (could have caused) a serious injury’.
He did, however, see a funnier side to the incident later that day, posting that there was “heavy air traffic in Italy” on his Instagram account.
A drone almost took out Olympic silver medalist Marcel Hirscher on his second run.
Hirscher wasn’t hurt and finished the run, although he finished second to Norway’s Henrick Kristoffersen.
MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO, Italy (AP) – Henrik Kristoffersen of Norway led Marcel Hirscher by more than a full second following the opening run of the World Cup night slalom on Tuesday.
Had it hit him, it is safe to say that Hirscher would not be in a position to compete for his fifth World Cup. “We agreed with (broadcasters) that drones could not fly over the racecourse but only in a corridor next to the slope, but it flew more and more into the slope”.
Schwarz started with the No. 33 bib and got his first podium in only his third World Cup race. “He had to fly outside of the race track and follow the racer from a 15-meter (49-foot) distance”.
The company responsible for the camera drone released a statement on the incident.
Oi, drone flyers: WATCH WHERE YOU’RE FLYING THOSE THINGS OK BECAUSE WE ALL HAVE MOVEABLE PARTS WE’D QUITE LIKE TO KEEP THANKS.
While countries like Austria, Switzerland and France do not allow drones to be flown over crowds of people, that is not the case in Italy.
