Skier survives 1600-foot tumble in Alaska mountains
McIntosh, filming for an upcoming ski and snowboard film, was mic’d up via radio and every drop and fall can be heard in agonising detail as he yells and grimaces at hard impacts.
Though, surviving a 1,600-foot fall in Alaska’s Neacola Mountains has to be termed a success in its own right.
Eventually, the veteran skier luckily came to a halt where he sat up straight, before shouting in his microphone, ‘I’m OK, I’m OK!’
He apparently fell after tripping on a five foot trench which had been missed when the skier initially studied the route.
A movie stunt gone wrong led to a skier falling 1600 feet down a mountain in Alaska.
By this logic, I think it’s safe to say that Ian McIntosh is at least part feline. He then began the descent, pulling his airbag to help prevent injuries as he tumbled to the bottom.
Cinematographer Todd Jones watched the fall unfold and described it as “the most terrifying crash I’ve ever seen”.
In Ian McIntosh’s biography with Teton Gravity Research, the pro athlete is said to have started his skiing at 22-months-old, since his family is composed of avid skiers.
