Skipper Wayne Rooney is not an automatic pick for Manchester United despite
The recalled Memphis gave the Red Devils an early lead, but Troy Deeney scored the first goal against United in 620 minutes with a 86th minute penalty to equalise, then the Watford skipper put through his own goal in the final whistle to give United a tenth successive win over the Hornets.
Rooney, 30, has been a big part of van Gaal’s side this season, despite the United captain’s poor goalscoring record. That will provide a significant boost to Van Gaal’s forward options, which were significantly limited at the weekend, leaving Memphis Depay to occupy the central striker role.
Ander Herrera, Phil Jones, Michael Carrick, and Antonio Valencia are the other absentees for the game.
Unbeaten at home this season, United’s form appears to be on the up again after a scoring drought and while we would not be sure about them keeping a clean sheet, a couple of goals at least can guarantee to extend their Champions League interest into the new year. “They also beat Manchester United, of course”.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, right, talks with Wayne Rooney during a training session at the team’s training complex in Manchester, England, Tuesday November 24, 2015.
Louis van Gaal’s men go into the game at Old Trafford in pole position in the Group B with seven points from four matches and a win for United over PSV would seal qualification for the knockout rounds.
“I am a trainer coach that always demands, not only one match but several matches but what I said is always the same procedure”.
Bastian Schweinsteiger missed training on Tuesday but will be available for selection.
“I think every young player goes through things but I keep training”, Depay said.
There were flashes of attractive play in the 2-1 win at Watford on Saturday, but still there is a feeling that United need to start blowing teams away to prove they are a top-class outfit.
“I think how we played was the same system as I played with the Dutch national team, and then he has more freedom and these players are so happy with that freedom they can excel and he showed that in the first half”, he said. I wondered if he was fed up because maybe it was the match against PSV and every player has to watch the game in the stadium to support their fellow players.
PSV are on a positive run in the Eredivisie as they have only suffered one defeat in 13 league fixtures, which has left them third in the table, four points behind leaders Ajax.
