Skowhegan domestic violence awareness vigil and walk
The Farmington Hills Police Department will be doing its part to raise awareness of domestic violence by displaying magnetic purple ribbons on all police vehicles and officers may be seen wearing purple ribbons on their uniforms. They are one of 9 domestic violence resource centers in the state of Maine.
A Candlelight Vigil will be held Monday, October 19 at 6 p.m.at the Jackson County Courthouse Square in honor of victims of domestic violence. Participants carried 38 red, life-size silhouettes representing the local victims killed by domestic violence in recent years.
Scottsdale police and the city court are hosting a Domestic Violence Awareness Month Warrant Round-Up next week. “People are here to help”, said CFVC Housing Program Director Teresa Millsaps. “Domestic violence isn’t just a silent little thing that happens in the home, it affects all of us”.
“We know you are exhausted”.
This project is sponsored by the Crisis Intervention Service in an effort to prevent domestic abuse.
The court is offering to help people with outstanding domestic-violence warrants in Scottsdale get them taken care of and get their court cases back on track, according to a news release. Millsaps said abuse can come in many forms: emotional, financial, sexual and psychological.
In 2014, 29 men, women, children, partners, and family members died as a result of domestic violence. One out of every three men is also a victim of domestic violence, but women make up about 97 percent of domestic violence survivors, CFVC reports.
