Sky Go arrives on Amazon Fire tablets
Sky TV has announced its popular Sky Go app is now available on Amazon Fire tablets, meaning more customers can now catch the best of the festive TV schedule while on the move. The Kindle e-reader business also continued its growth, hundreds of thousands of Kindle e-reader devices purchased.
The Fire OS update also includes “Activity Center”, a new compliment to Amazon FreeTime that lets parents monitor how their children use the Fire tablet.
“We’re excited that millions of customers will be opening new Amazon devices this holiday season”, said Amazon Devices senior VP Dave Limp in a statement. We’ve already built millions-and we’re ramping up production to build millions more.
The company said that sales of its devices were up 3x this Thanksgiving weekend as compared to the same time frame a year ago.
Pay TV operator Sky has launched its Sky Go mobile TV service on the Amazon Fire platform.
Regardless of the marketing-speak in Amazon’s announcement, it is pretty hard to find anything really negative about the company’s weekend sales. The U.K. retailer is selling an LG 55EG910V Curved Full HD OLED 3D Smart TV (55-inch display) for £1,399 (£600 off), with two pairs each of 3D glasses and 3D clip-on glasses bundled in.
The company said the best sellers were its Fire tablet at $49.99, the Fire TV Stick and its Echo, which was a best seller across all products on Amazon going for more than $100.
Amazon continues offering Cyber Monday Deals Week through Dec 5 and will continue offering deals on its Kindle devices throughout the sale. To make reading more enjoyable at night for Fire tablet owners, Amazon is introducing Blue Shade.
