Sky’s luxury SkyQ package brings new touch remote and multi-room viewing
Sky says you can add as many Mini boxes throughout the home as need, although there’s now no word on price.
Content deleted from tablet 48 hours after viewing starts or no later than 30 days after syncing.
The new Sky Q Silver set-top box allows you to record up to four separate stations at once as well as watch a fifth, from any room in your home, in a similar fashion to EE’s TV service.
With Sky Q, Sky has given its TV interface a sorely needed lick of paint.
United Kingdom broadcaster Sky has a new weapon in its battle for control of your living room: a luxury service dubbed Sky Q, which launches early next year. With a new feature called Q Snyc, you’ll finally be able to do this. He described the launch as “the start of a journey” with voice search, smartphone compatibility and an Ultra HD service to follow “quickly afterwards”.
Sky has launched a new service called SkyQ that blends live and on-demand TV as it tries to compete with the likes of Netflix.
As the box now uses a Bluetooth connection for the remote, the device also supports streaming music directly from your phone or computer to your TV via the Sky Q box.
Jeremy Darroch, Sky chief executive, said: “Sky Q is a brilliant new way for customers to experience TV on their terms”.
Each of the new Sky Q devices can also double-up as a wifi hotspot – keeping you connected throughout your home.
Sky has revealed it’s biggest product overhaul for years including two new TV boxes and a host of streaming option.
An accompanying Sky Q Mini box lets users wirelessly access Sky Q in other rooms of the home, without needing to be connected to the main dish. Viewers will be able to pause and resume watching on any of their screens.
Sky is proposing Sky Q as a “premium” TV service. The Mini is capable of pulling down live TV from the Silver’s leftover tuners, and you can have up to two running on the same network.
The company has also opened up its platform for the first time, signing deals with YouTube and Vevo to be available on the set.
The new hardware also boasts a few intelligent software features to recommend new TV series and movies based on your previous viewing habits.
Sky is yet to confirm pricing for the new line-up of products, but did confirm that ultra high definition programmes will begin to be shown on the service next year.
Sky Q will be available from early 2016.
