Sky Sports pundit hints at Jose Mourinho Man United exit
It came amid other reports that Mourinho had dressed down the World Cup victor in front of his team mates, telling him he would never be captain at United again.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho on Wednesday morning got into a forsty exchange of words with midfielder Paul Pogba.
Pogba was absent from the team as United were eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Championship outfit Derby County on Tuesday night.
Pogba appeared to criticise Mourinho following Man United’s tiresome 1-1 draw with Wolves, suggesting the team plays too defensively.
Another source, who is close to Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, has said they believe Mourinho, 55, has lost his greatest asset: the ability to cajole, read and relate to his players.
Mourinho has removed Pogba from the United vice-captaincy and Berbatov, who scored 57 goals in four years at United, says Pogba must have provoked him into making such a decision.
When Pogba stood his ground and started gesticulating with his arms after Mourinho was heard purportedly shouting “Paul, get out”, the manager called over club press officer John Allen and appeared to ask: “When did Paul post that, post that Instagram?”
“I am the manager, I make these decisions, no fallout at all, no problem at all”.
Woodward was joined on the 25-minute call by group managing director Richard Arnold and two other senior executives to run through everything from new sponsorship deals – seven in total – to social media footprint (United have more followers on Facebook than the National Basketball Association, the NFL, NHL and Major League Baseball combined).
The two key figures at Old Trafford have continued to butt heads, with their relationship appearing to unravel at an increasing pace.
United’s draw with Wolves meant they have only won three of their opening six matches in the Premier League and the side are in desperate need of a morale-boosting victory at Old Trafford.
Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba reportedly formally requested a move to Barcelona shortly before the Premier League season began, personally asking United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodard to approve the transfer, according to The Telegraph’s James Ducker. They played so well against Brentford and I knew how much they all wanted to play.
That speculation is unlikely to die down as long as Mourinho, who signed an extended contract until 2020 earlier this year, remains in charge.
