Skype is now down worldwide for many users
Despite indications to the contrary, Skype said instant messages are still being delivered.
A number of Skype users have reported problems with the messaging service, with contacts appearing offline and some unable to log in. Have any of you been able to get on Skype this morning?
This news comes on the same day when Microsoft has announced a Skype plugin for its latest Edge browser.
Microsoft acquired Skype in 2011 and in 2013 merged Messenger (also known as MSN Messenger and Windows Live Messenger) with the service.
The company assured that it is working on a fix.
Update 1: Skype now acknowledges the issue and states that they are working on a quick fix for everyone. Thousands of users are already complaining that they can not sign in to Skype right now, so hopefully this outage won’t last long. “Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused while we get this resolved”, Microsoft briefly said in a statement released today.
What’s worth noting is that only Skype’s clients are facing the issue, and users can still use Skype for Web (the version of Skype that works on a Web browser).
However if you absolutely have to connect to Skype, maybe for a conference call, you can try your luck with the web client, although it is possible that whoever you’re conferencing with might have issues as well.
