Slade accepts Marshall dismissal
The 10-men Cardiff looked set for a point until Connolly (90) could only deflect a Maguire cross into the back of his own net as Rotherham won for the first time this season and a first home defeat by the Bluebirds was followed up with a first away defeat too!
While both managers agreed that referee Keith Hill was right to give goalkeeper David Marshall his marching orders for his retaliatory kick at Matt Derbyshire, City chief Russell Slade said the official should have given his team a free-kick instead of punishing them with a penalty.
Rotherham have also conceded more goals than anyone else in the second tier this season, but themselves have only failed to score in one game so far this campaign, so there promises to be goals at the New York Stadium.
The home side had a flawless opportunity to go ahead when a through ball caught Connolly out and Derbyshire was clean through, he tried to square for Jonson Clarke-Harris but the ball was just out of his reach.
Following the commotion, and replacement keeper Simon Moore coming on for striker Joe Mason, Odjidja-Ofoe buried the chance into the bottom left corner.
Peter Whittingham’s fierce penalty after Farrend Rawson brought down Fabio levelled things before in first-half stoppage time.
The Millers were not to be denied, however, and Ledesma proved the hero.
‘I’ve taken a lot of penalties for my previous teams so yes, I can take a penalty. I think he made more out of it than it was but it was a mistake by me to hold him in the box so they got a penalty.
“We played some super football and played on the front foot and as Rotherham United under Steve Evans”. He’s been a bit foolish and he’ll be disappointed with that.
‘It was a pity we let them back into the game just before half time but the attitude from everybody was good and it was one way traffic in the second half and we managed to get a second goal’. You think it’s not going to be our day.
“I thought that we were fantastic from start to finish”, he told www.themillers.co.uk.
Bruno Manga, Scott Malone, Sammy Ameobi and Craig Noone are the players gunning for a recall to the starting side.
