Slain officer’s gun located; video to be analyzed in Fox Lake manhunt
Lurigio says that with the autopsy complete, the numbers of shots, kind of weapon and whether Lt. Gliniewicz died from his own gun – those are all known, but police are not saying.
The video was taken by a home security camera on a residence near the scene of Gliniewicz’s murder, Filenko said. “This video in particular is on a particular type of hard drive that they have the technology to retrieve it off of”.
With all evidence now in the hands of Homeland Security or the Northeastern Illinois Regional Crime Laboratory, Filenko said investigators are making significant progress and are expecting results related to the analysis of evidence by Thursday evening.
Three suspects wanted in connection to the shooting death of Fox Lake Police Lieutenant Charles Gliniewicz, a 32 year veteran police officer on Tuesday morning continue to elude police, but police say there is a “good possibility” the suspects are still in the area.
More than 48 hours after Lt. Joseph Gliniewicz was found dead in Fox Lake, very little information is being given to the public. The caller said the two men, spooked that she was calling police, fled into a cornfield.
Just some miles up U.S. Freeway 12 in Genoa Metropolis, Wis., Police Chief Joseph Balog stated his division was conscious of the manhunt however had exclusively been given the naked description of the suspects – three males, two white and one black. “He was my rock as much as I was his”, she said.
Covelli says the woman, 30-year-old Kristin B. Kiefer of Vernon Hills, has been charged with disorderly conduct and falsifying a police report. Police would not reveal any other details.
The obvious presence of so many police and media might actually reassure visitors, said Linnea Pioro, executive director of the Fox Lake Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
Kiefer told officers a white man and a black man tried to get in her auto, Covelli said.
Gliniewicz will be laid to rest after a procession to Hillside East Cemetery, 450 E. Depot St., Antioch, the release said. Christopher Covelli.
Keifer later recanted her story, admitting that she was seeking attention from the family she works for as a nanny.
At a Thursday bond hearing, a Lake County judge ordered Kiefer jailed, and rightfully so.
Local police officers have volunteered to come in while they’re off duty, and other law enforcement officers in the surrounding area have called to offer their assistance, Filenko said.

She said her husband was “the love of my life for the last 26½ years”.
