The shooting reignited calls from gun control advocates to close “loopholes” in the law that allow people to purchase guns online and at gun shows without background checks. Alison’s boyfriend, Chris Hurst, who is an anchor at WDBJ, plans to join in the effort.

Little attention has been given to the daily toll of gun deaths that are intentionally self-inflicted by those who are looking for a quick and easy way to take their own lives.
