Small Business Saturday in South Georgia
Lockhart says, “I think it’s great that it’s right after Black Friday”.
According to the US Census Bureau there are 424,000 small businesses in Louisiana; which means jobs for 900,000 people.
After Black Friday shopping at major retailers, Saturday was all about shopping small. “The material and quality of the clothes are very good”, said Doug Balvenz, a small business shopper. Now W.O.W. Meow Inc. sells books and artwork to the community.
Tessa Miller, owner of The Nest in Reno, says one of the best things about shopping at her store on Small Business Saturday is the unique gifts her customers buy. The store has given away 2,000 books since August.
However, the day they prepare for is the Saturday in-between.
“Small businesses are vital to our state’s economy, employing almost 70 percent of all working Kansans”, said Governor Brownback.
Small Business Saturday, also known as “Shop Small” Saturday, is a part of a national movement that started back in 2010 to encourage people to support small, local businesses.
Sandy Burnett, who has been shopping local for years, said it is important to invest in the city where she lives.

“And I really feel like there is, in South Dakota and Sioux Falls, specifically, a big shop local movement and people do care”, says Nancy Savage, owner of Child’s Play.
If the customers got a BINGO they had the opportunity to win a prize basket. In 2014, American Express said shoppers spent more than 14 billion dollars locally on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
