Small Business Saturday promotes “shopping small”
“You come into a small shop you’re greeted immediately by the owner or person running the shop”.
While big box retail stores have their Black Friday and Cyber Monday, mom and pop stores are gearing up for their retail day sandwiched between those two key dates – Small Business Saturday. “It’s a struggle to stay in business if people don’t shop local”, said Kraus.
While people scramble to find the ideal present, small businesses want to emphasize the advantage of shopping with them.
“You’ll find unique things, things that I’ve picked out personally”.
And customers aren’t just customers.
The employees at Bleu Frog are looking forward to Saturday, and hope to see you all there. “A really busy time of year for us”. All shoppers need to do is buy at least seven items and in return they were eligible to win in a raffle for special gift baskets ranging in value from $200 to $600.
For Bill Yeater, he said it was a day for people to invest back into their the Sylvester community. Especially in smaller communities where they help makeup the atmosphere of downtown and build an economic engine.
“Sometimes the clothing can be a little bit more expensive, but I think the quality is better and they give better deals”, said Megan Geitz, a small business shopper.
This day is not just about comradery and fun, previous year shoppers across the USA spent $14.3 billion at local businesses last Small business Saturday.
Stephen Collins, a Tucson resident, said he brought his family from out of town to shop in downtown Tucson, rather than big name retailers.
Even on Black Friday, shopping small may just be the way to go.
