Small door falls from passenger plane flying over NC
Thankfully, it wasn’t one of the plane’s huge doors that requires quite a bit of heft to lift and open. According to WBTV, a panel fell off of an American Airlines Airbus as it was preparing to land. The flight originated from Dallas-Fort Worth. The spot where it landed was near hole #7 on the golf course.
Sonny Barrett said fate may have saved him from standing in the path of this door panel that fell from a American Airlines plane.
The panel, approximately 15 inches wide, landed at Green Meadows Golf Course around 8:20 a.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Imagine you’re enjoying a nice, peaceful round of golf when suddenly, something falls out of the sky and lands on the green.
“It was flying right over top of our heads”, golfer Brian Francis said.
‘The panel door covers the hydraulic servicing area, which is not a pressurized area of the aircraft. Those who witnessed the door falling reported it was twisting around in circles prior to landing.
The FAA is now investigating the incident.
‘We have reported this incident to Federal Aviation Administration’.
The airline said no one was hurt when the panel fell from the plane, which carried six crew members and 146 passengers.
WBTV reports that the panel has been recovered.
