It can mean strolling to the local coffee shop and shopping in a store where the owner knows your name.

It takes weeks of preparation to get ready for Small Business Saturday, but it’s become a day about more than just shopping. “It’s been unbelievable. This year actually we’re doing 30% off the entire weekend, rather than just Black Friday”. “So when you shop in a store, a local business, you’re going to have that relationship”. “It takes away from our community, because that sales tax is going to another community”.

That’s the message Zogry of Downtown Lawrence Inc.is trying to promote this year.

Participating businesses will be offering fun giveaways, special promotions and more all day long. Keepers added that if a customer is looking for an item not in their store, employees can help them find it on their website or at another store.
