Smalling welcomes potential Ramos competition
Reports in Spain suggest Real Madrid are now seriously considering the sale of Sergio Ramos to Manchester United in order to secure the services of David de Gea.
The British club offered €60 million for Ramos and if that offer is accepted, they would let De Gea join Madrid this summer, per that same report.
Smalling has been at Old Trafford for the last five years, since when he arrived from Craven Cottage outfit Fulham in the summer of 2010.
The England global became an established player under manager Louis van Gaal last season, but is prepared to compete with the likes of Ramos for a place in the team next term.
In a recent interview with the media following their friendly against Roma, Navas was asked about the future of his life-long friend Sergio Ramos and if he has spoken to the defender about his rumoured move to Manchester United, stressing he is fully focused on his duties at the Santiago Bernabeu.
“Even when I signed there were five centre-backs who I had to work hard to get past, so I always knew I was going to be compared against the best because United can always challenge for the best, and I’m up for that challenge”.
“Ramos is a great teammate, a great footballer and I always want the best for him”.
“I hope my performances keep me in the team”, said Smalling. You can not afford to drop them.
“I want to make a good start to the season. After that it will just be a question of kicking on”.
