Smart TVs can be, well, pretty dumb

SmartThings-compatible IoT devices include light globes from Osram and Philips, hi-fi systems from Sonos and Bose, air-conditioning thermostats from Honeywell, video cameras from D-Link and deadbolts from Schlage, all of which have some sort of wireless connectivity that lets them communicate with a central SmartThings hub.
Samsung may be on the verge of a minor coup as it promises to integrate its smart TVs with a brand new universal remote control and an upgraded Smart Hub user interface.
As opposed to last year’s event where Samsung and LG had lots of their focus on showcasing the Smart TV hardware features, such as the quality of screen resolutions and their sizes, this year’s event will see these Asian tech giants switch their attention to Smart TV content.
The smart fridge ought to render sticking Post-It notes a thing of the past, as you can now leave messages for your family on the huge display.
The fridge also contains embedded stereo speakers for access to internet radio, music, news and the weather.
The Tizen-based Smart Control remote, meanwhile, will automatically recognize devices that are connected to your TV so you’ll never again have to search the couch cushions to find different clickers for TV power, volume control, and Netflix access.
Every week we round up the latest developments in the Smart World, from new developer platforms to smart city initiatives around the world. Its’ 2016 line of SUHD televisions in particular will all feature an integrated IoT hub developed in partnership with SmartThings, making the TV a control hub for an entire smart home.
This is key. Unless multiple devices can be controlled or programmed side by side or communicate with each other the IoT will never get close to realising its full potential.
