Smith and Kohli clash again in Bangalore
After a discussion with non-striker Peter Handscomb, Smith looked towards the Australian dressing room for inputs before deciding whether to review or not.
India vs Australia 2nd Test: Ishant Sharma created a hilarious moment by mimicing Steve Smith.
Kohli stormed across the pitch and approached Smith after the Australian skipper’s lbw dismissal on 28, which came with the game in the balance on day four.
Chasing 188, Australia was 74 for 3 when the Australia skipper was struck on the pads by Umesh Yadav and was given out by umpire Nigel Llong. Seeking guidance from backroom staff on reviews is not allowed. So shouldn’t have done that. “There was a bit of brain fade”, Smith said at the press conference. “He’s not only now continuing his disrespect of the Australian players and umpires, but I think he’s putting pressure on his own players now”, Healy had said to Australian radio station SEN.
When a reporter asked if that word was “cheating”, Kohli responded without a hint of a smile: “I didn’t say that, you did”.
Well, umpire Nigel Llong’s decision to declare Kohli out can be open for a myriad interpretations but prima facie what is evident from the replays is that the DRS cameras and audio system (Ultraedge) do not seem to be in ideal sync. But compared to India versus Australia series of the past, it was a damp sqib.
Surely, we might see ICC taking a look into the matter later or sooner as this a strong revelation from Kohli on Steve Smith.
“Some interesting banter between the two oppositions”. But I think it’s not good for them anymore.
“Me and Virat were having a little chat out there”. Not much in it. “I just try and smile because in my past experience smiling seems to unnerve the bowlers a bit more than talking back, so I was just trying and enjoy it out there and had fun”. That is the kind of things happen in these matches.
Kohli was fined for remonstrating with Smith during a 2014 Test at Adelaide Oval, while Smith took exception to a send-off at the same venue during a Twenty20 in 2016.
The batsmen decided not to use their last remaining review but TV replays suggested the ball would have missed the off stump by quite a distance. “He was just saying that I might need to run off and go to the toilet again, like in Pune”. But he turned around and started walking.
