Smith, Kohli clash as India wins second Test to level the series
That left Australia with a solitary review when Marsh shouldered arms to Umesh Yadav’s delivery from around the wicket and was hit on the pads in the vicinity of the off stump. The bowler mocked Australian players Steve Smith and Matt Renshaw by making faces at them, the players retaliated but they weren’t half as good.
Both umpires took Kohli aside after the incident, giving him yet another talking to during what has been an incredibly spiteful Test. Jadeja finally sent back Smith but the highlight of the day for many was Ishant’s attempts to rile up the Australians. I pointed it out to the umpire as well that it’s happened twice, and I have seen their players looking upstairs (to the dressing room) for confirmation.
However, the premier Australian batsman didn’t just stop there.
“We saw the replay and it was missing the stumps so it would have been a nice one to have reviewed”. There is no way to ascertain if the ball touched Virat Kohli’s bat or pad first but the fact remains that the India skipper was declared LBW at a crucial stage of India’s second innings.
Says a source in the know of the technology. It tweeted the video of Smith’s dismissal, with the caption wondering if the full form of DRS was “dressing room review system”. But sparks flew when the umpires noticed that the batsman had turned towards the dressing room as well to get a clue.
Taking a dig at Healy in the post-match press conference, Kohli said “one person’s opinion doesn’t make a difference to my life”.
That was certainly the case on day three of the Second Test in Bangalore after he took a stunner of catch to halt the momentum of India.
The visitors went on to lose by 75 runs.
Ashwin’s incredible six-for effort brought India back into the four-match Test series.
“It’s disappointing to have lost this Test match”.
“Their second innings batting, they played some good cricket”.
Kohli also lauded Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara for putting up the highest partnership (118) in this series.
The two teams will square off again in the third Test at Ranchi starting on March 16.
