Smithville Lake beaches closed because of algae outbreak
A bloom of the toxic blue-green algae was spotted on the west side of the lake, near Peterson Point in the town of Fleming.
Two beaches at Smithville Lake are closed due to a blue-green algae outbreak.
The beaches are able to reopen as of Monday afternoon on July 13.
Cazenovia Village Officials advised that a visual verification noted that the blooms had cleared on July 12 and water sample field testing completed by the Madison County Health Department today showed water quality results at acceptable levels at both swim areas.
Blue-green algae can come and go quickly, so health officials encourage residents to still be on alert for blooms, particularly in swimming areas.
