Snapchat excites advertisers as daily video views triple to six billion
For comparison, Facebook counts about 8 billion views per day on both desktop and mobile. Investors cheered the news and sent the stock zooming higher.
Evan Spiegel, the CEO of Snapchat mentioned previously that they intend to make the company public at a few point, but has yet to give any information on when this might happen. It also added a 3D Touch functionality for the newly launched iPhone 6s. Even so, the 6 billion daily video views will serve as an even more valuable bargaining chip for the company.
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is gearing to grab a large chunk of that video pie. It’s said that in May daily views were around 3 billion, but by September, Snapchat had hit 4 billion daily video views.
But not all agree with Facebook’s rosy outlook. “So could we expect Snapchat to be on par with Facebook by the end of 2015?” he said.
The latest FT figures are impressive no doubt.
While it’s true that different services count video views in different ways, Snapchat’s video-view growth, according to this weekend’s data, is clearly heading in the right direction, though building on this will depend largely on its ability to grow its user base and keep its video features fresh. While YouTube counts 30 seconds or over as a view, Facebook only counts three seconds or over while Snapchat only needs a video to be loaded for it to count.
The good news also comes after something of a controversy earlier this month, which saw Snapchat going on the defensive after changes to its privacy policy caused confusion among users, who were concerned that their photos and videos were being stored on the Californian company’s servers.
