Snapchat unveils updated version of Spectacles
New glasses are thinner and protected from exposure to water.
But it’s been a challenging run for the company since it went public a year ago.
When you export videos from Snapchat you’ll see this white border. The Spectacles are carrying a price tag of $150. Spectacles are available exclusively at Spectacles.com and cost £149.99. Snap’s Spectacles are now available for $149.99 United States dollars in onyx, ruby, and sapphire. The signature yellow ring that wraps around the camera lens on the front of the Spectacles is also gone.
As camera technology advances, cameras are becoming more than just tools for taking photos and videos. To do this, Spectacles 2.0 are equipped with a small, lightweight camera with a field of view of 105 degrees.
The original Spectacles were £129.99, initially impossible to get hold of and while we liked their quirky charm, they had some pretty annoying drawbacks.
The photos and videos have also received an upgrade where you can tap the top button to take a 10-second video and snap a photo by pressing and holding for a second. The glasses also come equipped with two microphones to capture more natural sound. The process seems to work a bit better now, but it still requires photos to first go through Snapchat, as reported by TechCrunch.
The glasses can store up to 150 videos or 3,000 photos at a time. The devices are compatible with iPhone 5 or above, running iOS 10 or above and for Android, it runs on Android 4.4 or above, with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Wi-Fi Direct.
The first-generation Spectacles were only available through Snap’s Snapbot vending machines to start. This area is now smaller and sleeker, making it fit in more naturally with the rest of the body. And even more important for those who are heading to the beach or the pool this summer, it is water-resistant and like the older one, it is UVA and UVB rated.
Thanks to its improved water resistance, Snap is billing these glasses as a sort of GoPro alternative for vacations and tame adventures. The company claims that the transfer speed is three to four times faster. When shooting LEDs light up on the rim.
Snap is introducing Shoppable AR to its platform this week – a feature that allows advertisers to sell products directly … The company will also only be selling the Spectacles online. While Google Glass of the past and Magic Leap of the present have promised the world, Spectacles were supposed to approach consumers in a place where they already were in a way that would get them comfortable with wearing a computer on their eyes. If you want to keep the recording live for more 30 seconds, you can tap it for once again.
