Snoop Dogg railing collapse injures 42
Dozens of people were injured after the collapse of a railing at a Snoop Dogg concert in New Jersey on Friday night.
A partition separating concertgoers from the stage at the BB&T Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey, collapsed, causing people to fall onto the concrete below.
Most of the injuries were broken bones and bumps and bruises, county spokesman Dan Keashen said.
An eyewitness told the paper that about 50 people fell about three metres (10 feet) onto concrete. Wiz and Snoop were escorted off the stage as security moved to assist injured fans. The collapse of the railing apparently was caused by a surge of fans moving forward to get a better view, according to a report in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
“People started piling on each other and people just started running”, said another reveller, Katie Colbridge. The remaining eight were treated on-site by medics and released, he said. As people rushed toward the railing, it collapsed.
Most of the injuries were minor.
The California rapper posted a rant on Instagram saying the “Roots” remake by History Channel that debuted on Memorial Day is offensive. One woman in a neck brace and seemingly severe head abrasions tweeted, apparently with some irony, “best concert ever”.
Camden City Spokesman Vince Basara says that city officials are working with BB&T Pavilion to address the issue.
Wiz also has yet to comment on the railing collapse.
