Snow, freezing rain, rain make for messy morning commute
Just how cold will it get in the coming days? I expect temperatures to warm well into the 30s and eventually lower 40s, melting a lot of the new snow.
According to the weather service, wind gusts may approach 45 miles per hour Thursday and Thursday night.
Once we raise above freezing later in the morning for Monday, freezing rain will turn to rain for the remainder of the day. The rain is also expected to end around noon.
“It’s all done for the Boston metropolitan area, ” said Benjamin Sipprell, a weather service meteorologist.
Temperatures Wednesday night are expected to drop to 5 to 10 degrees.
Tuesday morning will see possible freezing fog in areas followed by partly sunny skies with a dry afternoon. There may be a quick snow shower or snow squall as the front pushes through.
SATURDAY: A 70 percent chance of light rain and snow. There may be a few more flurries on Thursday, especially in the higher terrain. Winds could get up to 20 miles per hour in some areas as well.
Lows will continue in the teens through the weekend. After a high of only 23. West wind 13 to 17 miles per hour. 30 will hang onto to snow a bit longer, not seeing a switch over to rain until after 1 AM. “Most will see between 6-8″ of snow, more like 3-6” along the coast due to mixing.
A lake effect snow is set to be in effect from 1 p.m. Wednesday until 1 a.m. Thursday for Genesee and northern Erie counties. The highs on Thursday and Friday may only reach the mid to upper 20’s.
A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Cloudy, with a high near 38.
