Snow in the California mountains means a white Christmas
“And there’s more on the way for Christmas Eve to blanket us in a white Christmas”. “Rain will make travel hard along the major interstates, with mountain snow bringing impacts to several state and county highways”. Last year, we were under a trough in the jet stream that allowed cold arctic air to move down to us.
But that’s the word Western Mass News Meteorologist Jacob Wycoff used when he forecasted a record-warm day across the state for the day before Christmas. Temperatures on Saturday will be in the low 50s and in the low 60s on Sunday. Daytime temperatures are expected to reach 67 – smashing the record of 65 set in 1933 – according to AccuWeather.com. South and east of Missouri is likely to see severe weather Wednesday evening. Isolated strong storms with gusty winds are also possible.
Thursday: (Christmas Eve) Decreasing clouds with highs near 60. Iin the D.C. area, temperatures will be 30 degrees above average. The wet weather is expected to clear before midday, making way for a sunny, crisp and refreshing afternoon with highs in the low 60s for most areas.
Exactly five years ago today, Birmingham was covered by a blanket of snow and we were all looking forward to a white Christmas. Record highs stay safe, though we are close. Afternoon temperatures remain at near record levels with highs some 20-25° above average Saturday and Sunday.
Mostly cloudy skies are expected today, along with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible after 9 a.m. A 50 percent chance of rain is predicted, and up to a quarter of an inch of rain is possible. “We will know more probably by Thursday”, he added. It looks mainly dry Thursday and Friday with the exception of brief light rain or sprinkles which are possible Thursday morning as another wave of low pressure moves through.
