Snow On The Way For Northern Illinois Sunday and Monday
– Check back for updates!
The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning from late Monday night through Tuesday evening for New York City and parts of northern New Jersey and southern CT, while winter storm warnings and watches were issued for the remainder of the Northeast. Lake-effect snow could continue periodically throughout Tuesday. In Upper Bucks County, the changeover to all snow happened around 8:30, according to meteorologist Gary Szatkowski. Wind gusts could exceed 30 miles per hour.
Snow is expected to develop Tuesday morning and will possibly become heavy, at times, throughout Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Snow is in the forecast before 9 a.m. Saturday before changing over to a 50 percent chance of rain and snow.
“The storm is going to start, and when it starts, it’s going to snow hard, and it’s going to snow quickly”, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said. Periods of lighter snow or snow showers will continue into Tuesday evening.
Snow and freezing temperatures also hit the South over the weekend, and Arkansas received between four and five inches of snow.
The position of the area of low pressure is important. Coastal flood warnings were in effect from MA to Delaware.
Foot estimated Baltimore would get about 10 inches, but he said northwest suburbs out to Frederick could get 14 inches.
About 2-to-4 inches of general snowfall is forecast for all of Western New York with higher amounts along the Lake Ontario shoreline from the lake enhancement.
Westchester County and central New Jersey should see 10 to 18 inches of accumulation. The heaviest precipitation will be late tonight.
The snow could make for a slick evening commute on Monday and a potentially risky one on Tuesday morning, with possible whiteout conditions.
Parts of MA will be hit by 10 to 18 inches of snow, with winds moving north at 10 to 20mph with gusts of up to 30mph.
It will remain unseasonably cold with temperatures only expected in the low to mid 20s. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel unsafe.
By sunrise Tuesday, there could be 3 to 5 inches of snowfall. If someone has to venture out, they are advised to carry food, water and flashlight for emergency purposes.
