Snow Possible this Weekend in Outer Banks & Eastern NC
Our forecast low temperature of 4° would break the current record low of 7°, set back in 1996. You also may want to check on elderly neighbors. Highs will only reach the teens to low 20s. This is well below our average for this time of the year. High temperatures rising to near 40, should get it started. There also could be a flurry or two. Those winds are still out of the northwest and given how cold the air is we are going to keep the lake effect snow showers going.
The National Weather Service reports some areas off the coast will experience -10 to -20 degree temperatures Friday and Saturday night, and that the wind chills will be “potentially life-threatening”. Here in western MA we picked up more than a foot of snow from that storm. We’ll likely wake up to slushy, wet snow falling Saturday morning and on and off through the day until about 4 p.m., when it’s predicted to switch over to cold rain.
Sunday’s forecast is mostly sunny with a high near 27° with northwest wind 16 to 18 miles per hour and gusts as high as 28 miles per hour. Northwest wind 13 to 15 miles per hour. “On Saturday, we’ll have a high in the mid-20s and a low of 13”, Mr. Hendricks said.

High pressure finally builds in on Monday and the winds calm down.

“We may have a few icy spots overnight as the temperatures drop”, said Mitchell Gaines, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey.

There will be another chance for a rain/snow mix Tuesday night, but this event won’t have almost as many impacts as the weekend storm system.
