Snow totals highest in south-central Minnesota
We’ll see light to moderate snow off and on this morning with an additional 1 to 3 inches possible by early afternoon which puts our metro totals in the 3 to 8 inch range (less to the north, more to the south, hence the Winter Advisory/Warning difference that bisects the metro).
The Green Bay area reports about 11-inches of snow with some whiteouts last night, Milwaukee had a record 9-inches for the date, and other spots had three inches to nearly a foot.
MnDOT’s 511 website has a full map that gives real-time road and driving conditions around the state.
Heavy snowfall this afternoon could make for a slow evening commute, so be prepared. Minnesota Department of Transportation engineer Scott McBride says hundreds of plow drivers worked extended shifts to clear 12,000 miles of roadway.
The storm is expected to bring two rounds of snow, with the first wave hitting the region between 3 p.m. and midnight and the second wave developing overnight in southwest Minnesota before pushing across the state during the day Tuesday.
The National Weather Service says by Monday evening, the storm already had dumped 6 inches of snow in New Richland, 5.5 inches in Owatonna and Mapleton, and 4 inches in Waseca. The storm watch ends Tuesday morning.
A winter weather advisory is also in effect for much of west-central through northeastern Minnesota.
