Snubs and surprises from the 2016 Golden Globe nominations
Kate Winslet, best supporting actress for “Steve Jobs”: “I am completely over the moon and feel so honoured to be nominated for a Golden Globe by the HFPA for this film”.

The nominess for best actor in a TV drama series nominees: Jon Hamm, “Mad Men”; Rami Malek, “Mr. Robot”; Wagner Moura, “Narcos”; Bob Odenkirk, “Better Call Saul”; Liev Schreiber, “Ray Donovan”.
In the best foreign movie category, four European films and one from Latin America made the cut – “The Brand New Testament” (Belgium/France/Luxembourg), “The Club” (Chile), “The Fencer (Finland/Germany/Estonia), “Mustang” (France) and “Son of Saul” (Hungary)”. The nominations were announced Thursday by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which will name the winners at a ceremony on January 10.
Smith, whose upcoming “Concussion” has drawn headlines for its depiction of head trauma in football, apparently displaced Johnny Depp (“Black Mass”) from the best actor, drama, nominees. They’re all trying for the supporting role nods.
Leonardo DiCaprio, best actor nominee for “The Revenant”: “I am incredibly grateful for their nomination, as well as the recognition they have given to this film and to Alejandro’s (Inarritu’s) vision as its director”. This is the 73rd year for the Golden Globes awards.
Don’t cry too much for Ruffalo, however: He picked up a nomination for best actor in a comedy and musical for his performance in Infinitely Polar Bear.
Hulu received its single nomination for Casual, while Amazon got two nominations for Mozart in the Jungle and three for Transparent.
Her Best Actress competition includes Brie Larson for “Room”, Saoirse Ronan for “Brooklyn“, as well as the duo from “Carol”.
In the best animated film category, the Charlie Kaufman-scripted, stop-motion animated “Anomalisa” slotted in alongside a quartet of more family-friendly releases: “Inside Out”, “The Good Dinosaur”, “The Peanuts Movie” and “Shaun the Sheep Movie”.
“The Big Short”, which takes a quirky look at the housing bubble crash that led to the 2008 recession, will contend for best comedy/musical film alongside space adventure “The Martian”, Melissa McCarthy caper “Spy”, coming-of-age comedy “Trainwreck” and “Joy”, inspired by the story of the Miracle Mop creator.
The nominees for best supporting actor are Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies), Sylvester Stallone (Creed), Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation), Paul Dano (Love and Mercy), and Michael Shannon (99 Homes). Tied with four is the Aaron Sorkin-scripted “Steve Jobs”, though it failed to join the best picture nominees.
HBO, with seven nominations, took second place overall to Netflix, including its Emmy-winning series duo – White House comedy “Veep” and medieval fantasy “Game of Thrones”.
All three major streaming services-Amazon, Hulu and Netflix-were recognized among the list of nominees announced Thursday morning with 14 total nominations. “Now, with this Golden Globe nomination, I feel like a part of and I feel even more of a reason to celebrate being a part of the team”. Despite this perceived advantage, 2015 marks the first time in 10 years that the network has not led the Golden Globes nominations race.
