Snyder credits water efforts at Flint church
Contrary to what the governor has led the public to believe, there are new revelations that he knew a great deal about the Flint water crisis, and early on.
Not that Gov. Snyder personally dumped lead and other toxins into Flint’s water, but by dumping his small-minded, budget-whacking policies on the people of this largely poor, largely minority community, he did, in fact, poison them.
Flint businesses are now able to apply for federal disaster loans. His bill is separate from the ongoing effort in the U.S. Senate to attach a $600-million amendment for Flint to a national energy bill.
According to Reuters, the Federal Bureau of Investigation will be joined by the US Postal Inspection Service and the criminal and internal investigative branches of the Environmental Protection Agency to find out who was responsible for the contamination. Up to 12,000 children may have been exposed to the contaminated water, officials say. Cornyn is the Senate’s No. 2 Republican.
Flint switched its water source from Detroit’s water system to the Flint River in 2014 to save money while under state financial management. The department continues to review the actions of a second employee who was suspended last month.
A task force Snyder appointed to investigate the crisis has concluded that the DEQ is primarily to blame for not requiring the chemicals, which allowed lead to leach into the water.
DEQ Director Dan Wyant and communications director Brad Wurfel resigned, and so did Region 5 EPA director Susan Hedman.
“They didn’t teach me this stuff in seminary”, Odette said.
Snyder said one reason he made the staff changes was because “I wasn’t getting the information that I should have”. “This has proven, over the last 20 years, to be a very effective way to control lead from leaching into our water”, Gerads said.
Lower taxes reminds me, our Gov. Rick Scott wants to give businesses a tax break of $1 billion but he doesn’t have just $37 million to process hundreds of backlogged rape kits.
It was left to an aid to explain why Snyder aides were exchanging memos about an outbreak of Legionnaire’s disease in Flint last spring, when they didn’t inform the public until last month. In an infograph promoted by the Michigan GOP, the Obama administration is accused of not doing enough to fix the problem in Flint, while elaborating the alleged positive work Snyder has done.
