Snyder Denies Telling DEQ to Withhold Lead Test Results in Flint
Snyder instead presented his $54.9bn budget to legislators, dedicating m to Flint in 2017.
But with no end in sight to the water issues in their city, many people in Flint are finding it hard to move forward.
“I’ve followed up with her and can confirm that the numerous complaints comment in Susan’s email referred to the smell, taste, and look of the Flint water and not Legionnaires”, Eisner wrote to the Free Press.
For DPS, Snyder asked for an immediate $50 million to enable the state’s largest public school system to continue paying employees and vendors.
In 2014, before Weaver took office, Flint officials changed the city’s water supply from Lake Huron to the Flint River, which led to lead poisoning, rashes, possibly legionnaire’s disease and innumerable future lawsuits from residents against the city and state.
“This is not something the citizens of Flint should have to deal with”, Snyder said.
Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder is set to propose spending $195 million more to address Flint’s water crisis and another $165 million updating infrastructure, including lead water pipes, across the state.
Clinton also made a stop at UA Local 370 in Mt. Morris Township and spoke with business manager Harold Harrington, who was featured on Rachel Maddow town hall on the Flint water crisis on MSNBC last month, about efforts taking place to install filters and other items for city residents to try and alleviate concerns.
A January 2015 advisory from the budget agency’s headquarters assured the Flint office that pure bottled water “will be provided [on each floor of the Flint office] as long as the public water does not meet treatment requirements”. State and federal investigations are underway, and the state’s response to the crisis has become an issue in the presidential campaign.
The measure requires the Environmental Protection Agency to notify the public when concentrations of lead in drinking water rise above mandated levels and to create a plan to improve communication between the agency, utilities, states, and consumers. The mayor has asked Michigan Governor Rick Snyder to help the city obtain the $55 million needed to replace the pipes.
Snyder explained Thursday that in his new budget, there was already $9 million allocated, followed by $28 million in supplemental funds.

His proposal Wednesday drew mostly positive reaction from lawmakers who will consider the legislation in the coming months and likely approve a plan in early June.
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has acknowledged instructing Flint not to use corrosion controls, based on a misreading of federal regulations.
On November 3, Henry emailed the DEQ’s Laboratory Director George Krisztian and requested all lead testing results from Freeman Elementary, saying that his email should be treated as a FOIA request. Most chemicals used in this process are phosphate based and phosphate can be a “food” for bacteria. Without them, the river’s highly corrosive water scraped lead from pipes and fixtures for more than a year. He did not specify who made the decision.
