So a bear walks into a Montana high school… no, really

The woman sustained injuries that are not life-threatening, but the exact nature and severity of her injuries has not been disclosed.

The woman had been walking her dog at the Point of Rocks Fishing Access Site when the incident occurred.

The woman reported that she walked out to a gravel bar that is typically an island when the river is running higher.

A black bear on September 27 attacked an elderly Montana woman inside her home where she had been feeding them birdseed and millet.

The dog either chased away the bear and then returned to its injured owner or ran from fright before circling back to the woman, Jones said.

The Missoulian reports Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks bear expert, Jamie Jonkel, says 14 bears have died on highways near the Clark Fork and lower Blackfoot river valleys. The portion of the site where the attack took place has been closed.

According to FWP, local landowners reported seeing a lone male grizzly bear in the area recently.

The high school has had other animals inside the school, but this is likely the first time for a bear.
