So, Barbra Streisand Is Making a Movie About Catherine the Great
The queen diva will direct “Catherine the Great”, a biopic about the legendary Russian empress.
The film is about a young, sensual Catherine trapped into an abusive marriage with the heir to the Russian throne.
The last movie Streisand helmed was “The Mirror Has Two Faces” in 1996.
Barbra Streisand is set to make a return to the big screen, directing a Catherine the Great biopic.
The film will be produced by Gil Netter, known for The Blind Side and Dude, Where’s My Car? with a script from Kristina Lauren Anderson. She was also briefly attached to direct Skinny and Cat in 2012, with Colin Firth and Cate Blanchett, but the project collapsed. With that film she also became the first woman to direct, write, produce and star in a major studio film.
Streisand has directed three films, one of which was her 1983 film “Yentl”, which won a Golden Globe for Best Director of a Motion Picture in 1984, as well as a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Comedy/Musical. “The Prince of Tides” was nominated for a best picture Oscar.
Oscar victor Streisand (Best Actress in 1969 for “Funny Girl”; Best Song in 1977 for “A Star Is Born”) most recently starred in 2012’s “The Guilt Trip”, and has had roles in all of her directorial efforts to date.
