Soap star David Canary dies
David Canary, the Emmy Award-winning actor and star of ABC’s “All My Children” died on November 16 in Wilton, Connecticut due to natural causes, according to TVLine.
David began a 26-year stint on the classic daytime drama, “All My Children”, in the dual roles of Adam and Stuart Chandler.
Throughout his career, he bagged the Outstanding Lead Actor award, five times, from the Daytime Emmy Awards. Canary first joined the show as Adam Chandler, a ruthless businessman who would go on to found a Pine Valley dynasty via nine weddings, including a marriage to Erica Kane (soap opera queen Susan Lucci) that proved a little hard to end.
Canary, who was born in IN but grew up in Massillon, Ohio, attended University of Cincinnati on a football scholarship where he trained as a singer.
His film roles included “Hombre” with Paul Newman and “The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre” with Jason Robards. David Canary played the part of Adam Chandler (and Stuart Chandler) for over 20 years. Joining All My Children in 1984, he would become one of-or should we say, two of- the ABC soap’s most popular characters.
The actor first made a name for himself on “Bonanza”, playing Ponderosa ranch foreman Candy Canaday on the NBC television series for 91 episodes. David retired from full-time acting in 2010.
Canary is survived by his wife Maureen Maloney and their two children.
Canary got his start in theater, moving up from regional productions to his Broadway debut opposite Colleen Dewhurst in Great Day in the Morning.
Veteran soap opera actor David Carney has passed away at the age of 77, his local newspaper, the Wilton Bulletin, reported.
Canady’s co-star on All My Children for 12 years, Kelly Ripa – who played Canary’s daughter on the show from 1990-2002 – posted a touching tribute to her friend and on-screen dad on Twitter.
