Soldier Field will host the 2017 MLS All-Star Game

Indianapolis will become the 12th city hoping to enter the league.

Nashville Mayor Megan Barry, and members of the city’s MLS Organizing Committee, submitted their official bid for an expansion franchise Tuesday at the MLS office’s in New York City. He said the club could still add more players.

“I think it would be great, be very exciting”, said Ryan Coupin while watching a soccer game at Chatham Tap Pub on Massachusetts Avenue.

“They’ve (MLS officials) always said nice things about Sacramento, and we’re very respectful of their process so, as you know, we’ve had multiple conversations with them, and we’re very excited about how they view Sacramento”, said Warren Smith, of Sacramento Republic FC.

Cincinnati and Indianapolis were among the cities that submitted bids.

Indianapolis, home to the Indy 11 and a North Carolina FC opponent in the North American Soccer League, announced its plan to submit a bid on the eve of the January 31 deadline.

Both clubs now play in college football stadiums, with Indy playing at IUPUI’s Carroll Stadium, but FC Cincinnati average was double the Eleven’s average attendance in 2016 (17,296 to 8,801). North Carolina FC Owner Steve Malik also made his MLS ambitions clear at a press conference in December, although his plan is to privately-finance a new stadium up to MLS standards.

Disagreement among IN lawmakers IN 2015 halted the Eleven’s stadium plans, and perhaps the team’s MLS aspirations.

In previous attempts to settle the jail issue, cost estimates for both buildings were roughly a half-billion dollars. MI is home to 21 Fortune 500 companies, ranking sixth among US states. Teams would start playing in 2020. They’re now waiting to see if they’ll be hosting fans and teams of a different tier.

The MLS side will be coached by Fire head coach Veljko Paunovic. MLS will pare the field in the next few months and plans to announce its two selections by the end of the year.
