Soldier wounded in West Bank shooting
Nineteen Israelis and more than 100 Palestinians, mostly attackers, have been killed amid spiralling unrest.
In July, the suspected Jewish extremists torched a Palestinian house in the middle of the night in Duma, a small village in the West Bank. “Five months ago I was with you”, Trump said, pointing to his recent past as a much sought-after political donor who filled the campaign coffers of both Republicans and Democrats.
Further information on the investigation, including the identities of those held, remained under an Israeli gag order, often used to keep details of sensitive investigations secret.
Earlier on Thursday, Israeli police announced that it had arrested “youths belonging to a terror group” suspected of carrying out attacks on Palestinians over the past few days, and said there were “solid suspicions” linking them to the arson at the Dawabshehs’ home. Ali’s four-year-old brother remains in hospital.
The surge in violence began in September when tensions at a flashpoint holy site in Jerusalem revered by Jews and Muslims boiled over, amid rumours that Israel planned to relax long-standing rules to strengthen Jewish rights at the complex.
More than half of the Palestinians have been alleged assailants, and others have been shot dead by Israeli security forces during clashes.
The army’s recommendations were apparently made several months ago, and will now have to be revisited, Israeli military sources said.
Israeli officials privately accept that the violence is likely to continue.
“It has to be said that Israel has given a lot”, Trump said, adding, “I don’t know whether or not they want to go along to that final step (of making a deal)”.
According to IMEMC, the families of the two Palestinians were not informed of their sons deaths, and only recognized them after the Israeli soldiers published their pictures after shooting them.
Israeli troops on Friday shot and injured two Palestinians in the Gaza Strip near its heavily-guarded border with the Jewish state, Palestinian health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told AFP.
Trump evaded specific questions about whether Palestinian demands in peace negotiations are legitimate and whether Israel should be allowed to build settlements in the West Bank without restrictions, though he said the Israeli housing projects were a “huge sticking point” in talks. Marco Rubio, said at the same forum that those calling for more sacrifices from Israel “are dead wrong, and they don’t understand the enduring bond between Israel and America”.
The officer was wounded in the hand by the knife and was also hit by a stray bullet in the ankle when police responded.
