Some Countries Won’t Get the Oculus Rift until 2017
In total, Oculus is promising games galore for Rift owners, with over 100 titles slated to be released for the headset by the end of the year, including heavy-hitters like Minecraft.
When compared with other VR headsets priced by brands like Samsung (priced at $99), Lickey left a message on his Twitter “To reiterate, we are not making money on Rift hardware”.
Well, that changes now.
With Oculus Rift pre-orders for its state-of-the-art virtual reality (VR) headset available today, Naughty America, one of the largest USA producers of adult video, is ready – and so are its members.
The highly anticipated Oculus Rift pre-sale began at 8 a.m. for $599. As announced earlier this week, the Facebook-owned virtual reality company started accepting pre-orders for the Rift this morning. Well, they revealed the price along with announcing the availability of pre-orders and it’s $599.99.
Virtual reality is inching its way into our homes in the very near future. Admittedly, such an expense is to be expected, seeing as how the Oculus Rift is the first commercial (modern) VR gaming headset, but there is no question that such a cost will be a turn-off to some.
All preorder bundles of the headset will include the Rift VR headset with built-in microphone and headphones, a sensor, the Oculus Remote and an Xbox One controller.
Oculus boss Brendan Iribe noted that a Rift and a PC capable of powering would cost around $1,500.
Furthermore, Microsoft is working on bringing its whole Xbox One catalog to Rift, through its Xbox Live service on a PC.
The 7,000 or so Kickstarter Oculus Rift backers who pledged $275 or more can sit this frenzy out: They’ll get the “Kickstarter Edition” headset package sent to them, Wired reported. Some of the workers left the company after Oculus was acquired by Facebook.
