Some Delta systems haven’t recovered fully from outage
The airline, which owns about a 45% share of the Columbia passenger market, said it canceled 1,000 flights Monday.
Delta had worked to get its schedule back on track Monday, but the outage left numerous airline’s crews and airplanes out of place.
Delta passengers endured hundreds more canceled and delayed flights as the carrier slogged through day two of its recovery from the meltdown. “We are doing everything we can to return our operation to normal reliability, but we do expect additional delays and cancellations”.
Thousands of Delta customers were stranded by canceled or delayed flights after a power outage at Delta’s headquarters in Atlanta.
The airline is waiving fees, offering refunds and giving out travel vouchers to those who were scheduled to fly on August 8 or August 9.
The company extended a travel waiver to customers traveling Tuesday.

Delta initially announced it was cancelling about 300 flights Tuesday morning, in statement released at 8:30 a.m. EST. The airline operates 21 flights a day from Memphis.
The airline canceled about 1,000 flights Monday, leaving long lines and frustrated travelers scrambling to rebook flights. And it offered refunds and $200 in travel vouchers to people whose flights were canceled or delayed at least three hours. The disruption was so severe on Monday that, at one point, Delta warned passengers that information provided by its employees, website and app may be out of date.
This incident comes just a few weeks after an outage at Southwest Airlines led to the cancellation of about 2,300 flights over four days.
Though rumors of hacking have so far been debunked, the airline and Georgia Power are still unsure as to why the airline’s backup-power systems didn’t engage after the initial outage. The investigation continues, but he added that there was no evidence the problem was caused by hackers or an intentional breach.
According to the company’s website, tickets must be reissued by Friday.
