Some Lawmakers Are Weighing Legislative Protection For Robert Mueller
A decision that many of them will have to take now is if the legislation preventing Mueller from being fired by the president – previously sitting around in draft form – now needs to be acted upon.
McGahn said he would not deliver the order to the Justice Department, according to The Times, which cites four people familiar with the request by the president.
Trump has led the charge in attacking McCabe since the firing of former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.
Mr Comey’s firing is central to whether Mr Trump may have committed obstruction of justice.
She told host Nancy Cordes on CBS’s Face the Nation that Trump was angry and frustrated when he pushed for Mueller’s dismissal but “he did what he should have done, which is talk to his lawyer”, she said. “There has been no collusion whatsoever”.
He said he is looking forward to testifying before Mueller’s lawyers and would do it under oath.
But privately, there’s little for the White House to be so confident about.
Is it more meaningful that Trump wanted to fire Mueller, or that the special counsel’s work has continued apace for the past six months, with indictments, guilty pleas and extensive interviews of White House officials? It is an investigation that Trump has been less than elegant about trying to shut down, and there seems little reason to believe that the president is going to suddenly be overcome with reverence for the rule of law anytime soon.
“Mr. Mueller is the flawless guy to get to the bottom of all this”, Sen.
The comments were published in a story that highlighted how Trump sought to make public a secret document that Republicans believe could undermine Mueller’s investigation.
Given the nature of that investigation, it is entirely inappropriate for President Trump to do anything to impede it.
“Mueller has stuff on the administration that is likely to be very damaging”, he explained. “I have confidence in him to get to the bottom of all things Russian Federation”. “That’s coming down the pike and when it happens it will be a constitutional crisis”.
“Article II of the Constitution of the United States vests the executive power in the President”.
Experts have argued, Trump has slightly less nuclear options at his disposal too.
John Dowd, one of Trump’s attorneys, said the White House, in what he called an “unprecedented” display of cooperation with Mueller’s investigation, has turned over more than 20,000 pages of records. “So what is the alleged illegality here that could possibly “hamper” or obstruct the investigation?” “And that’s where the crisis comes”, said Seidman.
Trump’s strategy, NBC’s Howard Fineman reports, “is to discredit the investigation and the FBI without officially removing the leadership”.
Graham also praised Mueller as the right man for the job Sunday and reiterated his support for legislation protecting Mueller’s employment. Mark Warner of Virginia quickly accused Trump of crossing “a red line” that should be met forcibly by lawmakers to protect the Constitution.
In fact, in December, Trump chose to side with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the US intelligence community.
