Some Melania Trump speech lines mirror Michelle Obama speech
Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but it’s doubtful Melania Trump was looking to flatter Michelle Obama with her speech to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland on Monday night. Anti-Trump delegates had tried to force a state-by-state roll call vote on the rules, which to their dismay require delegates to vote for a nominee based on their state primaries and caucuses.
This is actually pretty unconventional; in general, the roll call of the states takes place later in the week. This time, it’s also another opportunity for discord to be heard.
On Tuesday, the focus will turn to jobs. “Ninety-nine percent of that speech talked about her being an immigrant and love of country and love of family and everything else”.
Asked if the blame should fall to Paul Manafort, Mr Lewandowski said it’s on “whoever is in charge of the convention”.
Clinton was a key figure for the convention – one who is disdained by elements of the Republican Party that are at odds over Trump, and therefore perhaps the best hope for GOP unity as the week and the campaign progress.
Mr Trump – who broke with tradition by appearing at the convention before his nomination – beamed as his wife, a Slovenian-born former model, strode to the podium to a roar of applause. “That is the lesson that I continue to pass along to our son”, she said.
But shortly after the opening night of the Republican National Convention concluded, an observer on Twitter noted that a small portion of her remarks was remarkably similar to a passage from first lady Michelle Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention eight years earlier in Denver. The statement didn’t mention Mrs. Obama. Mrs. Trump’s address was otherwise distinct from the address that Mrs. Obama gave when then-Sen.
“These are themes that are personal to her, but they’re very personal to a lot of people, depending on the stories of their lives”, Manafort said. The chaos during the convention highlighted the divisions within the Republican Party as it struggles to unify behind Trump in the run-up to the November election against Democrat Hillary Clinton.
On Monday, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani drew cheers from the crowd as he bemoaned racial divisions, in an impassioned speech.

“I believe”, Rappaport said, searching for words for a moment, “it was not unintentional”.
“You know, there was certainly a collaboration – certainly there’s no feeling on her part that she did it, you know”.
Trump’s opponents had little chance of stopping his march.
But in an interview with CNN on Monday night, Christie brushed off questions about not being selected and said everyone would be over it by Tuesday.
“I can not, or will not, take the freedoms this country offers for granted”, Ms Trump said.
